South Charlotte Neighborhoods

Living in South Charlotte

South Charlotte is one of the city’s most popular and fastest growing areas. The area boasts unmatched access to Uptown via South Road, Providence Road, Independence Boulevard, Park Road and many other major thoroughfares as well as affordable home prices and quiet, historic communities to choose from. When it comes to value and convenient access to Uptown, South Charlotte is hard to top.

The South Charlotte area plays host to two of the city’s most coveted neighborhoods: SouthPark and Ballantyne. Each neighborhood offers beautiful homes, plentiful public space and each own unique appeal for prospective homebuyers. Both SouthPark and Ballantyne are renowned for their wide range of shops, restaurants and entertainment options.

SouthPark is a highly desirable neighborhood noted for its historic charm and gorgeous homes. The neighborhood’s genesis dates back many years when it was originally a plot of farmland owned by former North Carolina Governor Cameron Morrison. The family’s main home, a gorgeous Tudor Revival mansion built in 1927 called Morrocroft Mansion, still stands today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It marks, in essence, the heart of this historic neighborhood.
SouthPark neighborhoods boasts a broad collection of prestigious home choices such as the single-family homes, modern townhomes, the luxury homes of Pellyn Grove and the beautiful Morrocroft community. In addition to its elegant homes and renowned addresses, SouthPark also hosts a thriving business community complete with several commercial offices, hotels and the like. It also hosts the SouthPark Mall, Charlotte’s top upscale shopping center and home to luxury retail brands such as Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co. and many more.

SouthPark is also rich with cultural and entertainment options, playing host to the Charlotte Symphony’s Summer Pops concert and the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting tradition. Elsewhere in SouthPark, residents will find upscale dining, shopping and nightlife options at retail centers such as Morrocroft Village and Phillips Place.

Other shopping venues include Phillips Place, Sharon Corners, Morrocroft Village and Specialty Shops on the Park. All include shopping and dining options. SouthPark’s condo market is beginning to rival that of Uptown, with a number of major luxury and mixed-use developments in the works.
Ballantyne, another prestigious community in South Charlotte, also holds great real estate opportunities just waiting to be discovered. A much newer neighborhood than SouthPark, Ballantyne is like a self-contained city, hosting beautiful homes, an office park, a resort hotel and some of North Carolina’s best golf courses. Like SouthPark, Ballantyne is a popular neighborhood for commuters to Uptown and other business districts in the Charlotte region. When it comes to value and prestige, Ballantyne is the place to beat.

South Charlotte, in addition to its coveted neighborhoods, also plays host to top-notch amenities and attractions for residents to enjoy. Just a few of these in the area include the upscale shops of the Park Road Shopping Center, Cotswold Village Shops, the Arboretum, the Carolina Place Mall and many more. Recreation and leisure options are widely available as well and include Shalom Park, McAlpine Creek Park, the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, the Harris YMCA and many more. South Charlotte also plays host to some of the city’s finest schools, hospitals and medical clinics.

With its prestigious communities and wealth of amenities, South Charlotte is among the most coveted areas of the city. Whether you’re a commuter to Uptown, a recent college graduate or a family looking for a friendly, livable community, South Charlotte is just the place to start your search for a new home.
