Money Magazine has recently given formal recognition to something that many Charlotte residents may have suspected for a long time: their community is the best “bargain city” among America’s larger metropolitan areas. This most recent accolade was bestowed upon the Queen City as part of the magazine’s 2014 “Best Places to Live in America” ratings.

To compile its list of “best bargain cities,” Money only ranked cities with populations greater than 500,000. Its methodology included consideration of the following important parameters:

  • Housing affordability
  • Economic strength
  • Livability
  • Housing price forecasts

Charlotte’s recognition as the best bargain city with a half-million residents or more highlights features that are positive for both buyers and sellers of residential real estate. The analysis by Money magazine emphasizes the continued prospects for a strong and stable economy. Relocating buyers can look forward to making this very livable city their own. Finally, forecast strength in housing values bodes well for those wanting to sell, amd for those buyers that seek a reasonable return on their investment over the long haul.

Plaza Midwood

The article focused some special attention on the Plaza Milwood neighborhood, characterizing it as an interesting combination of the “gritty and the pretty” that is ideally situated just 10 minutes from the central city area. It focused on one couple in the neighborhood that had an opportunity to move almost anywhere in the metropolitan area, and yet they chose to simply move around the corner in Plaza Midwood. Money described it as an “artsy, bike-friendly neighborhood” with an active calendar filled with everything from concerts to road races. Money cites the beautiful, historic architecture as another major draw in this neighborhood.

Mountain Island Lake

Money Magazine also identified Mountain Island Lake as an area where buyers can get real value for their money, in an attractive setting. The magazine characterized the neighborhood as very family-friendly and “outdoorsy” in nature. The lake, an abundance of community parks, and proximity to the new I-485 beltway were all cited as pluses. Mountain Island Lake is located about 20 minutes to the northwest of uptown.

Although Charlotte has repeatedly enjoyed recognition in numerous rankings, this latest accolade may carry added weight among those wanting to purchase a home in this major metropolitan area. If you are interested in searching for the perfect home in Charlotte, visit RE/MAX Executive.
