As the weather continues to cool, and Christmas begins to quickly approach, fun holiday events start taking place throughout the Queen City.
Dec. 1
A Celtic Christmas with Robin Bullock takes place at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church. The talented instrumentalist brings Christmas music to life with carols and hymns.
The Leonard Bernstein Symphony Orchestra, an animatronic orchestra, performs daily at Founders Hall through Dec. 27. This 45-minute performance generally takes place on a hourly basis between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. However, some exceptions occur during the day on Dec. 5, 7, 12, 13, 14 and 17.
Miracle on 34th Street is being performed by the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte on several occasions through Dec. 22. Those shows will take place at McColl Family Theatre.
Dec. 2
A Merry Carol of the Bells is a concert that will include a fascinating collection of sacred and secular holiday songs. This event takes place at Huntersville First Baptist Church.
Dec. 5
SPX Magic of Christmas is a festive holiday concert that will be performed by the Charlotte Symphony through Dec. 8. The performances will take place at Belk Theater.
Dec. 6
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, a heart-warming tale about the holiday spirit, takes place from Dec. 6-8 and 13-15 at the Lincoln Cultural Center.
The Charlotte Youth Ballet performs The Nutcracker from Dec. 6-8 at the Halton Theater.
Dec. 7
Matthews Ballet is also performing The Nutcracker. Performances will take place on Dec. 7 and 8 at the Matthews Community Center.
Dec. 12
Black Nativity: The Musical Experience, a musical based in Detroit and around the theme of Christmas, will be performed at the Booth Playhouse at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center through Dec. 15.
Dec. 13
A Classic Christmas TV Special is a sampling of songs and scenes from televised Christmas specials. It will be performed at Matthews Playhouse through Dec. 15.
McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square will play host to A Soulful Noel, a beautiful mixture of dance, music and the spoken word.
The Belk Theater at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center will play host to The Nutcracker through Dec. 22. The Charlotte Symphony and 100 characters will be performing at one of Charlotte’s most popular holiday events.
Dec. 14
A Commedia Christmas Carol, a Children’s Theatre of Charlotte production, will be held at the Wells Fargo Playhouse from Dec. 14-29. This production will be performed in the commedia dell’arte style.
A Prime Time Holiday will feature Charlotte Children’s Choirs singing songs from holiday television specials. This performance will take place at Sharon Presbyterian Church.
Scrooge will be performed at Matthews Playhouse.
The Spirit of Christmas will feature a fun evening of holiday choral music at McGlohon Theater.
Dec. 16
The Chris Isaak Holiday Show takes place at the Knight Theater at the Levine Center for the Arts. The talented singer will sing some of his greatest hits as well as traditional holiday songs.
Dec. 20
Charlotte City Ballet will perform Holiday Enchantment at the Matthews Community Center through Dec. 21.
Colors of Christmas will feature the beautiful voices of Peabo Bryson, CeCe Winans, Rube Studdard and Melissa Manchester as they take the stage this evening at the Knight Theater at the Levine Center for the Arts.
Dec. 21
Christmas with the Charlotte Children’s Choir and Charlotte Bronze will help get everybody into the Christmas spirit four days before the holiday with this evening of music at Myers Park Baptist Church.
