One of the greatest appeals of owning a home in Charlotte is that people with many types of interests will find entertaining things to do in here. Some of the city’s attractions are the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC), the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Discovery Place and the Carowinds theme park. Charlotte has historic sites and museums. Mountains and beaches are nearby. All of these attractions make owning Charlotte real estate appealing.
The National Whitewater Center is an outdoor recreation facility. Visitors can participate in a variety of activities on land and in the artificial whitewater river. The Canyon Crossing is one of the activities on land. Participants in this activity take sky bridges through trees over a gorge. They travel back to their starting point on a zip line. The Adventure Course is an obstacle course in trees 20 feet above the ground. Other land activities are hiking along trails by the Catawba River, mountain biking and rock climbing. Activities on water at the National Whitewater Center include whitewater rafting and kayaking. Visitors can also take relaxing kayak rides or go paddle boarding on the Catawba River.
The NASCAR Hall of Fame has exhibits on the sport’s history. Visitors can see 18 historic cars and nearly 1000 artifacts related to NASCAR. The Hall of Fame has over 50 interactive exhibits. Two of these exhibits are a realistic race simulator and a broadcast booth.
There are more interactive exhibits at Discovery Place. Children can learn about water at the Water Table and build a race car in the KidScience section of this museum. Children and adults can see birds and reptiles in the World Alive exhibit.
Carowinds theme park has water rides and roller coasters. The Boomerang Bay Waterpark area of the park is open during the summer. Some rides here are just for children. The park also has live shows, restaurants and stores.
The Hezekiah Alexander Homesite is one of Charlotte’s historic sites. This house was built in 1774 and is open for tours. It is one of the buildings on the same property as the Charlotte Museum of History.
Some of Charlotte’s other museums are the Mint Museum of Art, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and the Charlotte Trolley Powerhouse Museum.
Charlotte is only two hours from the mountains in North Carolina’s high country. The beaches at Lake Norman are a 20 minute drive from Charlotte. Beaches on the Atlantic Ocean are about a three hour drive from Charlotte.
