If you ask anyone where to grab a drink in the Myers Park area, you will most likely get a unanimous answer of Selwyn Pub. This local staple has been voted Best Pub twice, once in 2010 and once in 2012, and voted Best Neighborhood Pub twice, once in 2013 and once in 2015, in Charlotte Magazine’s Best of the Best Awards. The atmosphere of Selwyn Pub is one of the biggest draws, as it is mostly outdoors, featuring fire pits and covered by big trees- there’s no better way to spend a summer night. If you’re lucky, you may even spot Michael Jordan, as this is one of his favorite hang outs.

What To Do: Discovery Place Nature

Discovery Place Nature was the first part of the expansive franchise to exist. Started in 1951, it quickly became a huge attraction in the Charlotte area. Discovery Place Nature is adjacent to Freedom Park and is a great way to learn about and interact with nature. With a planetarium, nature walking trails and animal encounters, this museum allows kids to get an all-encompassing experience with nature that they may not be able to get otherwise. It helps reinforce good eco-friendly habits and also is a great way to get your kids to love the outdoors in an age of video games and mobile devices.
