Ballantyne is a prestigious Charlotte neighborhood that is located just outside of the I-458 loop and is adjacent to the South Carolina border. In fact, it is closer to the South Carolina border than to uptown Charlotte. This newer neighborhood was originally used as farmland and a hunting preserve that belonged to a family until Charlotte resident Smoky Bissell bought the land in 1995. About 2,000 acres were purchased for development and he named the area after his aunt, Barbara Ballantyne.

This upscale neighborhood has a population of approximately 23,000. Ballantyne is home to 4,000,000 square feet of Class A office space, including the headquarters of Extended Stay America, SPX, and ESPN regional television. Shopping and dining conveniences here include Ballantyne Village, Ballantyne Quad, Ballantyne Commons East, and Ballantyne Corners. Other shopping areas include Stonecrest, Providence Commons, Blakely, Piper Glen and Trader Joe’s.

Ballantyne is the perfect place for people who like to live, work, and play all in the same area. With so many corporate headquarters and offices located here, residents can find work just a short commute away from where they live. With all of the shopping opportunities available in Ballantyne, residents who do not want to venture out of the neighborhood seldom need to.
