Charlotte Knights Break Ground on New Castle

Category : Charlotte News, Information on Charlotte, What to do in Charlotte

A temporary home plate was set in the dirt this past Friday, symbolically telling Charlotteans, “Your Knights are finally coming home.” The AAA baseball team has continued to carry the Charlotte name proudly for the more than two decades they haven’t actually played here. After their 1988 season, then-owner George Shinn (a name many native Charlotteans will recognize) moved the team out of Crockett Park and into Fort Mill, South Carolina. The 10,000-seat BB&T stadium, located just a couple of blocks away from the Panthers’, is set to open by April of 2014.
